Brenda Woody & Steve Tindle - Triangle of Secrets

 Brenda Woody &Steve Tindle
Triangle of Secrets

And the WINNER is:
Lisa Lane!!!
Congratulations, Lisa!

Tonya: Some of us have things we do to get into the writing frame of mind like music, or drinks. Do you have anything special you do to get into the writing mood?

Brenda: Hi Tonya! Thanks for having us on your blog again. I have to have coffee when we write. And well..... Steve’s answer below tells it all. LOL We enjoy listening to classic rock while we write especially 70’s music.

Steve: Well Tonya, we like to write alone so we can get naked; our youngest still lives at home. Our juices flow as we put fingers to keyboard.

Tonya: Tell us a little bit about your new release Triangle of Secrets, Book One, without giving any spoilers.

Brenda: TOS was submitted as a short story. The person who read it to the end wanted more; for the story to go on. So that’s exactly what we did, expanded into a novella. Morgan, our main character, desires to act out her fantasy with two men; her lover and best friend. There’s a twist in the story that will surprise the readers. Morgan meets a certain someone at the end of the book. This scene will carry into Book Two.

Steve: TOS Book One is the first in the series. The series will delve into several types of triangles. Book One is MMF

Blurb:  Triangle of Secrets, Book One, is the story of three ordinary people trying to make their way in the corporate world and keeping their personal lives out of it. Morgan, the Vice President of a prestigious company, dates her best friend and co-worker, Derek, to hide her secret affair with Scott, the much younger mail clerk. Derek appears with Morgan socially to hide the fact he is gay. He is afraid his lifestyle will hinder promotions. Scott wants out of the mail room and will do anything his lover asks of him. What happens when Derek and Scott meet at Morgan’s house to fulfill her wildest fantasy? Will the triangle break or will it be completed?

Tonya: Fans will be excited to know TOS is a series! What are the themes of the next installments and how many books will there be?

Steve: We were in our muse, the spa, talking about Triangle of Secrets and where we wanted it to go. We came up with stories of several triangles. Since we already had MMF, we talked about other ménages and worked up notes on the other triangles: FFM, MFM, FMF, FFF, MMM. We’re always thinking of new triangles and just opted to make it six instead of five; really, as we were answering these questions. LOL I’m looking for the FFF book. *wicked grin*

Brenda: *elbows Steve* I bet you are!  LOL This was our attempt at writing ménage. We had to do research on the different situations. During the research we found out MMF; the men interact during sex too as well as FFM, the females interact. FMF; the females don’t interact and so on. So the subgenre category depends on the interactions between the three people. This was interesting and mind boggling! We have also discussed printing the series as a whole book when all six are completed.

Tonya: How many times do you proofread and edit before you’re satisfied with the manuscript?

Brenda: Every author should have a critique partner; someone they trust to email their MS too. And vice versa, critique for them. I would say we proofread and edit at least 5 times before are satisfied our work is ready to be published.

Steve: We read it out loud to each other, and even have Adobe Reader read it to us as we follow along to make sure the story flows. We send the finish copy to a friend who ensures we haven't missed anything. The more eyes you have reviewing your work the fewer mistakes you make.

Tonya: I’ve often wondered how difficult it would be to co-author a book. Do you share an office? Alternate chapters or collaborate on everything?

Brenda: It’s amazing how in sync we are! We hardly disagree on the characters or scenes. Titles come easy to us. We both write the chapters; I add the fluff. Yes, we collaborate on everything.

Steve: We set up an office with our desktops but now that we have two laptops, we find ourselves writing while on the couch. We talk out the book while in the hot tub, then write up the notes. Our laptops are shared so the notes can be reviewed by either of us. One of us will write some on the WIP and then it’s edited by the other. If one of us gets stuck on a word or phrase we sound it out until we like the sentence.

Tonya: When you have writer's block how do you break free?

Steve: With two of us working on the WIP we rarely have writer's block. If we come up with a scene that doesn't work for the WIP, we jot it down and use it in a future work. We get our inspirations from every day life, TV, radio, and from fans who tell us their stories. So, there is no time for writer's block.

Brenda: We don’t get writer’s block thank goodness. What we’re not disciplined at is writing every day. An author should write every day even if it’s only for an hour. I have to shut down FB, Twitter and the blogs, and make us write. Steve grumbles at this. LOL

Tonya: What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?

Brenda: I never had the support in prior relationships to become an author like I do with Steve. He came immediately on board because he saw the potential of the two pages of a story I emailed him back in 2008. Guess it was our destiny to be together. Awww... I know. *grins* What surprises me most is the open communication we have in our relationship and with our work.

Steve: We can do it!!!! After years of telling ourselves we weren’t good enough to do this or that, we did what we wanted to and became published with Best Lover in Town. That break-through allowed us to continue and write the other books.

Tonya: What are your future projects?

Steve: We have two new books we plan on publishing by the end of 2011. We also have the Triangle of Secrets, Book Two to finish early next year.

Brenda:  A high school friend of ours requested we write an erotic story with a cowboy. She loves cowboys. So Scarlett’s Cowboy was born. Warning - it’s going to be a tear-jerker. Another author friend was suggesting erotic stories to us. She writes YA and Romance. One of her ideas clicked with us. Rainie’s Lake is a contemporary erotic supernatural book. Like Steve mentioned above both books will be available in 2011.

Tonya: Is there anything else you want to tell our readers?

Brenda: We are huge on promoting other authors. Be sure to visit our Blogger site and visit our web site Yola. Click on the tab ‘Author Interviews’ and enjoy past interviews with really good authors in several genres. We’re taking a break until December on interviews because we moving to GA end of this month. Yep, going home and living near the Atlantic coast were we can relax and write!

Steve: We enjoy talking to fans about our works, hearing their stories and blogging with other writers. So leave your comments and let us know you were here. We will try to answer any questions you have for us.

  5. I'd like to ask Brenda Woody & Steve Tindle a question about how they introduce the names of characters within fiction.

I have a tendency to stick to a format where I usually start off a brand new piece initially by introducing the full names of main actors in my work.

For instance: "John Smith awoke tired but ready for the day." I know this is a cheap and dirty way to plug the reader right into the action but there has to be a better way.

  6. Hi lovesexjournal,
We apologize for not replying sooner. Our excuse- packing and getting ready to to move!
But to answer you question. We start our story with just the first name. We think this is more personable and eventually plug in the last name either in conversation or or a scene later in the story. In our synopses, we use either just first or first and last name of the main character(s). If the reader read the synopsis before purchasing one of books then they know first and last name.
In Best Lover in Town, readers find out Nathan's last name in first paragraph but Janet's last name is finally mentioned when she places an add on a single sight.
Don't think there is really a right or wrong way. Depends on how the author wants to introduce the characters.
Thanks for stopping by and for asking a really good question.
