Kiki Howell - Erotic Paranormal Author

Kiki Howell
Erotic Paranormal Romance

Thank you for stopping in to meet Kiki! She's sexy, fun and writes hot paranormal just for YOU! She's having a contest at the end so don't forget to earn as many entries as you can. Let's help get the word out about her books so more readers can find her!
Ever since she was young, Kiki Howell has loved to listen to a well-woven tale with real characters, inspired plots, and delightful resolutions. Kiki could spend hours lost in a book, and soon she knew that creating lives, loves, and losses with just words had to be the greatest thing that she could do. To that end, she pursued her study of literature and writing, earning a bachelor’s degree in English. She then followed in a Master’s program in Creative Writing.
She has now had over thirty stories published between eleven different publishers. She could not be more thrilled or grateful to see her creations polished and out in the real world. In May, 2011, Kiki was chosen as an Ohioana Book Festival author for her novel, Torn Asunder. Although, a bit of caution, most of her stories tend to hang out on the graphically sexy side of town.

Tonya:  Kiki, congratulations on all you've accomplished and welcome to my blog. My readers are anxious to learn more about you so let's get started. Tell us a bit about yourself.

Kiki:  I’m a mom of two teenage boys first and foremost. And that keeps me plenty busy, but then I have all these hobbies and interests that there are just not enough hours in the day for. Besides writing, I am a reader, and love all sorts of genres. Maybe that’s why I write in so many of them too. I love TV and movies too. Some of my favs are True Blood and Supernatural, and I’m still lost without LOST! LOL Movies, well I go from Pride & Prejudice to Practical Magic without batting an eye. I love to bake and hate dieting, love to knit and hate to exercise…you get the point. So basically, I’m currently a Type-B Wanna-Be who has been watching documentaries to find a way to honestly want to be a health nut *sighs*

Tonya:  I know what you mean. It's a never ending battle. Do you have a day job?

Kiki:  No. I’m a lucky girl!

Tonya:  I guess you are. Some of us have things we do to get into the writing frame of mind like music, or drinks. Do you have anything special you do to get into the writing mood?

Kiki:  I try to get the “have-tos” out of the way for the day, but that is about it. Somedays, I just write *winks*

Tonya:  Where do you keep story ideas? Where do they come from?

Kiki:  I have a file that lists all my stories, and I update it all the time as to what stage they are in: plotting, rough draft, final rewrite, submitted, published, etc. At the top of that file are the ideas. Where they come from is varied. Sometimes it’s personal, starting with something I need to work through, and thus my character does too, just in a paranormal world. Sometimes they start as an idea, something I want to tackle writing about. I’ve even written a story out of the need for revenge *giggles* - making the phrase, “Careful or you will end up in my next novel” so true.

Tonya:  If you’re self-published, can you tell us a bit about that and how it’s going for you?

Kiki:  I’m not self-published. I admire authors who take that tough road, but luckily, I’ve had 11 different pubs now that I have worked with who have helped me learn so much along the way.

Tonya:  Either road, the authors still have to work hard with promo to get the word out about our books. Are you a daytime writer, night time writer, and do you have to be alone to write?

Kiki:  I like to be alone when I write, so I really only write when everyone is at school. Husband is a teacher too.

Tonya:  What advice would you give to new authors?

Kiki:  Just write! Write the story that is one your heart. Don’t censor yourself by worrying what others will think when you write, or your true story won’t show through.

Tonya:  That is a hard thing to do sometimes because we're always wondering what others think. Do you write better when you first have an idea of what your characters look like or do you write, then add character looks?

Kiki:  Coming up with character looks is part of my plotting/outlining phase, so I guess before.

Tonya:  What attracts you most about men?

Kiki:  Hmmm…. I like the rough look, hairy (chest and long hair), perfect if in just a pair of jeans with bare feet. What, TMI? LOL

Tonya:  Never too much information, girl! We’re dying to hear about your latest book. What can you tell us without spoiling the storyline?

Kiki:  Well, my latest release is the second book in my At War in the Willows series. All three books are about an escalating war between three clans: vampire, witch and werewolf. Due to fears about their differences, nothing but public, casual interaction is allowed between clans. So, when a vampire and werewolf fall in love, a literal war breaks out between the clans. The series is more dark, more intense than any I’ve written so far.

Tonya:  Where can our readers find you and your books?

Kiki:  They can pretty much find out anything on my website, www.kikihowell.com Or, for more daily updates, I’m on Facebook, Twitter, oh and I love Pinterest!

Tonya:  That site is growing by leaps and bounds. Is there anything else you want to tell our readers?

Kiki:  Being a paranormal author, I have so much coming soon with Halloween just around the corner! Keep checking my website for a novella called Mystical Mayhem, The Vampire’s Human which is Book 3 in the At War in the Willows series, and my first ever mainstream novel – Hidden Salem.

Tonya:  What is your favorite night time snack?

Kiki:  Depends on the mood I’m in really – anything from hummus and crackers to cake!

Tonya:  Do you like toppings on your ice cream?

Kiki:  YES! And I like a lot mixed together like butterscotch chips, coconut, crushed cookies and hot fudge sauce ;)

Tonya:  What’s your favorite meal - Italian, Mexican, Thai, etc?

Kiki:  I’m a huge Mexican fan! I'd love to share an excerpt with your readers!

Excerpt from A Vampire’s Wolf, Book 2 in the At War in the Willows Series

Into his arms she fell, knocked them both off balance until they landed on the bed with the grace of lovers long kept apart. That’s to say, no beauty or finesse at all; just two bodies which came together, joined as close as they possibly could from head to toe, connected by what felt like the beat of only one heart. Even though the fall was enough to take one’s breath away, Amberlyn felt like she’d really taken her first real breath in a long time when Kane’s mouth took hers. His lips claimed hers, pressed down hard, consumed her own. He nipped at one spot, kissed another, parted her lips with his tongue. She relented, gave herself more than willing, ready and able.
As they rediscovered all a simple kiss could be, their limbs tangled together, warred for closeness that would never be enough, could never be enough unless joined as one. Sometimes, even not then.
No matter what people were, no matter what the social laws, regardless of the social conventions, beyond the uninformed beliefs, the rulers of their clans could not police or keep apart two hearts such as theirs – so hopelessly in love. Her vampire heart wanted a werewolf and she had to live with the consequences of her actions. They’d held back, not seen each other since her maker, Drake, had been killed when her relationship with Kane went public. Still, no amount of time apart, blood shed, threat of war or all-consuming guilt was going to change the way she felt about Kane.
This week her traitorous, dead heart had broken, had missed Kane and Drake. All she’d really done with her time was lay low as if she’d been told and get pissed about with the way things were. In their small resort town of the Willows, in the mountains of Tennessee, witches and werewolves and vampires were supposed to co-exist, mingle for show in public, but not form relationships and never, ever fall in love. But, sadly, the announcement that she loved Kane had gotten Drake killed and a witch dead in the crossfire. Now it seemed war had been declared against the clans.
She’d had hours to pine away the last few days, lost in all of her losses, to think on such things – what she’d done right, what she’d done wrong, how to make herself love no one – but there was no reasoning with the cold, dead organ which beat no more in her chest. Though the guilt was a bitch, she would forever long to be in Kane’s arms. These were the sad facts, her own catch-twenty-two.

Release Party w/Amelia James, Erotic Romance!

 Release Party!

Amelia James
Erotic Romance

Thank you for stopping in to meet this weeks sexy romance author and to help her celebrate the new release, Her Twisted Pleasures! Watch out for balloons on the floor and the streamers overhead. The bars in the back and our bartender will be more than happy to help you!
Amelia James started reading steamy romance novels in junior high, but her mom took them away from her, so she started daydreaming instead. After she got married, she wrote some of her naughtier daydreams down and sent them to Playgirl magazine. Two of them got published. She kept daydreaming and writing stories until her dirty stories turned into trashy books.
She lives in Colorado, but she’ll always be a loyal Wisconsin Cheesehead. When she’s not lusting after her next bad boy hero, she looks for inspiration in sci-fi and action movies, football players, bloodsucking lawyers, muscle cars, and kick-butt chicks.
She's got a contest at the end for you to enter. A winner will be drawn on Saturday, the 18th for a signed copy of Tell Me You Want Me! Good luck to everyone!

Tonya:  Amelia, I'm honored to be among those helping you with your release celebrations! Let's get started. Readers love to know more about their authors. Tell us a bit about yourself.

Amelia:  I am Amelia James, and I write trashy books. I published a romance novel, Tell Me You Want Me (now available.) I’ve been writing stories since the third grade and reading romance since junior high. Yep, I’m addicted. My new release, Her Twisted Pleasures, is an erotic short story collection featuring three (M/F/M) characters.

Tonya:  Do you have a day job?

Amelia:  Not anymore, thankfully. I had a series of mind-numbing, dead-end day jobs I hated, but I’ve been writing full-time for the last year. Writing challenges me like no day job ever has.

Tonya:  Some of us have things we do to get into the writing frame of mind like music, or drinks. Do you have anything special you do to get into the writing mood?

Amelia:  I let my mind wander. I like to play ‘what if?’ with my characters and their lives.

Tonya:  Where do you keep story ideas? Where do they come from?

Amelia:  I keep a notebook with me at all times. I also have ideas on my computer. I get most of my ideas from my dirty mind. * wink *

Tonya:  If you’re self-published, can you tell us a bit about that and how it’s going for you?

Amelia:  I was self-published for a year, and it was a lot of hard work for little reward, so I submitted my newest release, Her Twisted Pleasures, to an indie publisher. They accepted it and they’re republishing all my self-published titles. I learned a lot from the experience, but I can’t do it on my own.

Tonya:  Self-pubbing IS a lot of work, but we all still have to market our books so readers can learn about them. Having guests here on my blog is one way I like to help authors get in front of readers. Are you a daytime writer, night time writer, and do you have to be alone to write?

Amelia:  I get up at 5am to write. I write best after I’ve had a good night’s sleep. Yes, I have to be alone. No music, no distractions.

Tonya:  What advice would you give to new authors?

Amelia:  Everyone needs an editor. An editor will see ways to improve your writing that you can’t. I’ve learned a lot from my editors at Evolved Publishing.

Tonya:  Do you write better when you first have an idea of what your characters look like or do you write, then add character looks?

Amelia:  I need to know who my characters are and understand their conflicts before I start writing. Looks are secondary.

Tonya:  What attracts you most about men?

Amelia:  I love long hair on a man. Mmmm yummy. I also love a guy with a dirty sense of humor.

Tonya:  I’m one of those who love to fist my fingers in their hair! We’re dying to hear about your latest book. What can you tell us without spoiling the storyline?

Amelia:  Her Twisted Pleasures is an erotic short story collection. The stories follow three characters (M/F/M) and their twisted relationships with each other. Sometimes dirty little secrets are more dirty than secret.

Blurb:
His hand came off my neck, and he wrapped his arms around me, crushing me against him. I grabbed his hair and forced his mouth to mine, feeding the darkness possessing us…. Submission, yes! Not giving up control but having it taken from me. This… this was why I needed Alex. Will was too nice; he would never abuse me like this. But Alex…mmm…Alex had no such qualms. “What have you done to me?”
Talia indulges her sexual pleasures, turning her life into a twisted mess. Sleeping with Alex is dangerous and reckless. She craves that excitement. Loving Will is comforting and safe. She needs that stability. Why can’t she get everything she wants from one man?
Will has everything under control. Watching his girlfriend flirt with his best friend fuels his lust for her. He loves Talia; he trusts Alex. It’s all good as long as he makes the rules.
Alex doesn’t give a damn about rules. He knows how to play with fire without getting burned. It’s just sex with Talia. No emotions means no attachments. That’s one rule he won’t break.
Sometimes dirty little secrets are more dirty than secret….

Excerpt:  Her Twisted Pleasures' first story, A Good Slut

Warning: XXX-rated

"I had the weirdest dream." I snuggled closer to him, feeling his heart beat steady under my cheek.
His hand slipped between my thighs. I was still wet. "Was it about him?"
     "Yes."
His heart beat faster against my side. "Be a good slut and tell me about it." He smiled. "Don't leave anything out."
The glimmer in his eyes made me wonder what he was hoping for. Alex had invaded my sleep before—even hotter than this one. Will liked hearing all the dirty details. Strange, but if it turned him on, what was the harm in telling him? Still, I never said Alex's name.
"I got up for a drink and he was in the kitchen."
     "Were you naked?"
"Yes, but he wasn't. He pinned me against the wall and fucked me."
"Mmm... did you like fucking another guy?" The hand between my legs probed my wet flesh, and his fingers slipped inside me.
"Yeah." I smiled and sweat sprinkled my skin.
Will understood, like no one else ever had, my need for variety. I'd never been with anyone as long as I'd been with Will because... well, they soon bored me.      He gave me free rein to flirt with anyone. I tried hard not to cross the line, but he never got mad, never showed any emotion at all.
Sometimes, he seemed to like it.
I dragged my mouth up his neck and flicked my tongue in his ear. "He made me come." I smiled on his hot skin, knowing my dream orgasms would make him hard.
He groaned and draped my thigh over his hips, grinding his cock against my mound. "How many times?"
"Um...." I stalled, teasing him. "Twice."
He kissed me, fucking my mouth with his tongue. "Was he fucking you both times?"
"No. The first time he was fingering my button."
His amused smile told me he liked my silly words for my girl parts. "And he fucked you after that?" He teased my pink flesh with his cock.
I gnawed my lip and buried my face against his shoulder, nipping it. "Yes."
"That's my girl." His cock slid inside me as his big hand cupped my ass and held my body against his.
My fingers tangled in Will's long hair and I kissed him, moaning into his mouth and trying not to remember how Alex's cock had felt in my dream. Would it feel that good in real life? No—don't go there.
Then I remembered something else—a new element in my dreams. What would Will think if he knew he was in it too? "You were watching us."

Tonya:  I love it! Where can our readers find you and your books?

Amelia:  I’m on Twitter as @TrashyWriter. I’m on Facebook, Google+, Good Reads and I have a blog called Trashy’s Treasures.

Tonya:  Your blog is a fun one! Readers, be sure to stop over there! Is there anything else you want to tell our readers?

Amelia:  My publisher is re-releasing my current titles with new covers and editing. My first romance novel, Tell Me You Want Me, was released June 26. Secret Storm and The Devil Made Me Do It will be out in Fall 2012.

Tonya:  Congrats on the new re-releases and covers. I’ve seen the new Tell Me You Want Me! Yum! What is your favorite night time snack?

Amelia:  Peanut M&Ms

Tonya:  Do you like toppings on your ice cream?

Amelia:  Ice cream? Where? Gimme a spoon!

Tonya:  What’s your favorite meal - Italian, Mexican, Thai, etc?

Amelia:  Any meal I don’t have to cook. LOL Readers, please be sure to get in on the contest below and you can earn extra entries! Thank you so much for stopping by! I'll be available on Wednesday for questions!
