Kiki Howell
Erotic Paranormal Romance
Thank you for stopping in to meet Kiki! She's sexy, fun and writes hot paranormal just for YOU! She's having a contest at the end so don't forget to earn as many entries as you can. Let's help get the word out about her books so more readers can find her!
Ever since she was young, Kiki Howell has loved to listen to a well-woven tale with real characters, inspired plots, and delightful resolutions. Kiki could spend hours lost in a book, and soon she knew that creating lives, loves, and losses with just words had to be the greatest thing that she could do. To that end, she pursued her study of literature and writing, earning a bachelor’s degree in English. She then followed in a Master’s program in Creative Writing.
She has now had over thirty stories published between eleven different publishers. She could not be more thrilled or grateful to see her creations polished and out in the real world. In May, 2011, Kiki was chosen as an Ohioana Book Festival author for her novel, Torn Asunder. Although, a bit of caution, most of her stories tend to hang out on the graphically sexy side of town.

Tonya: Kiki, congratulations on all you've accomplished and welcome to my blog. My readers are anxious to learn more about you so let's get started. Tell us a bit about yourself.
Kiki: I’m a mom of two teenage boys first and
foremost. And that keeps me plenty busy, but then I have all these hobbies and
interests that there are just not enough hours in the day for. Besides writing,
I am a reader, and love all sorts of genres. Maybe that’s why I write in so
many of them too. I love TV and movies too. Some of my favs are True Blood and
Supernatural, and I’m still lost without LOST! LOL Movies, well I go from Pride
& Prejudice to Practical Magic without batting an eye. I love to bake and
hate dieting, love to knit and hate to exercise…you get the point. So
basically, I’m currently a Type-B Wanna-Be who has been watching documentaries
to find a way to honestly want to be a health nut *sighs*
Tonya: I know what you mean. It's a never ending battle. Do you have a day job?
Kiki: No. I’m a lucky girl!
Tonya: I guess you are. Some of us have things we do to get into the
writing frame of mind like music, or drinks. Do you have anything special you
do to get into the writing mood?
Kiki: I try to get the “have-tos” out of the way
for the day, but that is about it. Somedays, I just write *winks*
Tonya: Where do you keep story ideas? Where do they
come from?
Kiki: I have a file that lists all my stories, and
I update it all the time as to what stage they are in: plotting, rough draft,
final rewrite, submitted, published, etc. At the top of that file are the
ideas. Where they come from is varied. Sometimes it’s personal, starting with
something I need to work through, and thus my character does too, just in a
paranormal world. Sometimes they start as an idea, something I want to tackle
writing about. I’ve even written a story out of the need for revenge *giggles*
- making the phrase, “Careful or you will end up in my next novel” so true.
Tonya: If you’re self-published, can you tell us a
bit about that and how it’s going for you?
Kiki: I’m not self-published. I admire authors who
take that tough road, but luckily, I’ve had 11 different pubs now that I have
worked with who have helped me learn so much along the way.
Tonya: Either road, the authors still have to work hard with promo to get the word out about our books. Are you a daytime writer, night time writer,
and do you have to be alone to write?
Kiki: I like to be alone when I write, so I really
only write when everyone is at school. Husband is a teacher too.
Tonya: What advice would you give to new authors?
Kiki: Just write! Write the story that is one your
heart. Don’t censor yourself by worrying what others will think when you write,
or your true story won’t show through.
Tonya: That is a hard thing to do sometimes because we're always wondering what others think. Do you write better when you first have an
idea of what your characters look like or do you write, then add character
looks?
Kiki: Coming up with character looks is part of my
plotting/outlining phase, so I guess before.
Tonya: What attracts you most about men?
Kiki: Hmmm…. I like the rough look, hairy (chest
and long hair), perfect if in just a pair of jeans with bare feet. What, TMI?
LOL
Tonya: Never too much information, girl! We’re dying to hear about your latest book.
What can you tell us without spoiling the storyline?
Kiki: Well, my latest release is the second book in
my At War in the Willows series. All three books are about an escalating war
between three clans: vampire, witch and werewolf. Due to fears about their
differences, nothing but public, casual interaction is allowed between clans.
So, when a vampire and werewolf fall in love, a literal war breaks out between
the clans. The series is more dark, more intense than any I’ve written so far.
Tonya: Where can our readers find you and your
books?
Kiki: They can pretty much find out anything on my
website, www.kikihowell.com Or, for
more daily updates, I’m on Facebook,
Twitter, oh and I love Pinterest!
Tonya: That site is growing by leaps and bounds. Is there anything else you want to tell our
readers?
Kiki: Being a paranormal author, I have so much
coming soon with Halloween just around the corner! Keep checking my website for
a novella called Mystical Mayhem, The Vampire’s Human which is Book 3 in the At
War in the Willows series, and my first ever mainstream novel – Hidden
Salem.
Tonya: What is your favorite night time snack?
Kiki: Depends on the mood I’m in really – anything
from hummus and crackers to cake!
Tonya: Do you like toppings on your ice cream?
Kiki: YES! And I like a lot mixed together like
butterscotch chips, coconut, crushed cookies and hot fudge sauce ;)
Tonya: What’s your favorite meal - Italian, Mexican,
Thai, etc?
Kiki: I’m a huge Mexican fan! I'd love to share an excerpt with your readers!
Excerpt from A Vampire’s Wolf, Book 2 in the At War in the
Willows Series
Into his arms she fell, knocked them both off balance until
they landed on the bed with the grace of lovers long kept apart. That’s to say,
no beauty or finesse at all; just two bodies which came together, joined as
close as they possibly could from head to toe, connected by what felt like the
beat of only one heart. Even though the fall was enough to take one’s breath
away, Amberlyn felt like she’d really taken her first real breath in a long
time when Kane’s mouth took hers. His lips claimed hers, pressed down hard,
consumed her own. He nipped at one spot, kissed another, parted her lips with
his tongue. She relented, gave herself more than willing, ready and able.
As they rediscovered all a simple kiss could be, their limbs
tangled together, warred for closeness that would never be enough, could never
be enough unless joined as one. Sometimes, even not then.
No matter what people were, no matter what the social laws,
regardless of the social conventions, beyond the uninformed beliefs, the rulers
of their clans could not police or keep apart two hearts such as theirs – so
hopelessly in love. Her vampire heart wanted a werewolf and she had to live
with the consequences of her actions. They’d held back, not seen each other
since her maker, Drake, had been killed when her relationship with Kane went
public. Still, no amount of time apart, blood shed, threat of war or
all-consuming guilt was going to change the way she felt about Kane.
This week her traitorous, dead heart had broken, had missed
Kane and Drake. All she’d really done with her time was lay low as if she’d
been told and get pissed about with the way things were. In their small resort
town of the Willows, in the mountains of Tennessee, witches and werewolves
and vampires were supposed to co-exist, mingle for show in public, but not form
relationships and never, ever fall in love. But, sadly, the announcement that
she loved Kane had gotten Drake killed and a witch dead in the crossfire. Now
it seemed war had been declared against the clans.
She’d had hours to pine away the last few days, lost in all
of her losses, to think on such things – what she’d done right, what she’d done
wrong, how to make herself love no one – but there was no reasoning with the
cold, dead organ which beat no more in her chest. Though the guilt was a bitch,
she would forever long to be in Kane’s arms. These were the sad facts, her own
catch-twenty-two.
