Thank you for having me on your blog, Tonya!
When I was a kid, there was this candy bar commercial that made us all giggle. "Sometimes you feel like a nut. Sometimes you don't!"
We'd run around cracking each other on the heads and saying, "You feel like a nut!"
When I started writing novels, I found this exact thing happening to me. Sometimes my books would come out humorous and light – I was a nut! Other times, they were all drama-tastic and full of angst.
To avoid confusing readers, I separated myself into two pen names -- the nut and the not-nut. I got mixed advice on this. Some said: Two names to promote! Too much! Others said: Smart! Make sure readers know what they're getting.
This week, I'm finally launching my second humorous book under my name Mary Beth Daniels. I wanted to try my hand at a new adult title. Tapping into that college-girl self was super fun, and adding a little magic to the book made the romance interaction light and funny, rather than all burn-me-on-the-pyre-of-love.
Using the name Mary Beth, I could free myself up to be sort of silly. In my newest book Passion Potion, my main character Jet flunks out of chemistry only to find out her family legacy isn’t in balancing chemical equations, but in making potions! Dumping a girl with no training or powers into the world of serious enchanters made for a fun fish-out-of-water story, and of course the only person who is willing to help her is – ta da – the cute boy in the bowl. (Yeah, it sounds crazy, but the story makes it work.)
I’ve had a wonderful time with it, and the early interest in the review copies as well as the cover launch was incredible! We’ll see how it does come May 1, when it’s released out into the world!
If you like nuts,
find me as Mary Beth on
I’ll be back in my writing cave, switching from nuts to no-nuts as I work on another Starla Cole title full of relationship woes and does-he-love-me’s.
If you are nut-free,
Starla and her erotic
romances are found on
Just for fun, leave a comment to include which celebrity YOU would like to use Mary Beth's Passion Potion on...who would YOU choose?? Comment and let's have some fun!
