DESERT HEAT
Readers love to know more about their
authors. Tell us a bit about yourself. I’m from Derbyshire, in England, and I write erotica and erotic
romance. I write in lots of different subgenres, pairings and lengths. I enjoy
reading, watching TV and films, spending time with my other half, exploring the
countryside and stately homes and historical places, and playing with my dog.
Do you have a day job?
Yes—though I do lots and lots of different
things that make up a full-time job. I run my own marketing and promotions
company, Writer Marketing (Services)
where I provide services for writers and small businesses. I also edit for a
publishing company, run an erotica website (Website)
and squeeze my writing in around that. Somehow everything gets done!
Some of us have things we do to get into the
writing frame of mind like music, or drinks. Do you have anything special you
do to get into the writing mood? Usually having a deadline
gets me writing! I’m naughty, really. I’ll procrastinate about something like
crazy until suddenly the date I have to hand it in gets closer and closer, then
I’ll write like a mad person to get it done on time. Other than that, as long
as I’m not tired—as I really struggle to write when I’m tired—I can pretty much
always turn my mind to writing.
Where do you keep story ideas? Where do they
come from?
I have a notebook where I
write down my ideas, and refer back to them when I’m looking for something new
to work on. In terms of where my ideas come from—anywhere and everywhere.
People, places, overheard conversations, a photograph… also, I often find
specific calls for submissions get my brain working on new ideas, too.
If you’re self-published, can you tell us a
bit about that and how it’s going for you? I’m both self-published and
also published with several publishing houses. The whole writing thing is going
pretty well. Some of my books sell better than others, but at the moment there
doesn’t seem to be a pattern, so I’m just writing what I want to write,
enjoying it, and hoping that readers enjoy my work, too.
Are you a daytime writer, night time writer,
and do you have to be alone to write? I can write any time, though
it’s mainly in the afternoon/evening. And yes, I have to be alone. Not in the
house, but certainly in the room.
What advice would you give to new authors?
Read lots in your chosen
genre, learn to edit yourself thoroughly, and be sure to study contracts before
signing them.
Do you write better when you first have an
idea of what your characters look like or do you write, then add character
looks?
Usually I have an idea of
what a character looks like before I start writing them. I’m fond of choosing a
sexy celebrity and basing my characters on them.
What attracts you most about men?
Sense of humour,
intelligence, nice eyes and smile.
We’re dying to hear about your latest book.
What can you tell us without spoiling the storyline?
Desert Heat is a M/M military
erotic romance novella. It was originally written to be included in the
Unconditional Surrender boxed set. The set is now out of print, so I’ve
released the novella by itself. It tells the story of a British soldier who
goes out to Afghanistan for the last time as the British are winding down
operations there. He meets the Afghan man who is to be his interpreter for the
duration of his tour of duty. Let’s just say there’s an attraction between the
two men and leave it at that… ;)
Where can our readers find you and your
books?
I keep my website up to date
and include all my
books, their genres and their lengths. It’s here
Is there anything else you want to tell our
readers?
I’m very active on social
media and love chatting with people, so please do look me up!
What is your favorite night time snack?
Chocolate—especially
Cadbury’s Dairy Milk. My favourite.
Do you like toppings on your ice cream?
I’m not a huge fan of ice cream, but yeah it’s nice with a
strawberry sauce.
What’s your favorite meal - Italian, Mexican,
Thai, etc?
I like a traditional British
roast dinner!Author Bio
