LB James
Erotic Romance
Tonya: LB, welcome to my blog and thank you for taking the time to spend the week with us! Readers love to know more about their authors. Tell
us a bit about yourself.
L.B. James: I’m a normal, everyday wife, mother, and carpool
taxi. I write smoking hot erotic romance
and avoid coffee like the plague unless I’m close to unconscious because I
generally have too much energy to start with.
Caffeinate me at your own risk. I
have a dry sense of humor, no tolerance for liars, and a top-secret life as a
double agent. (One of those three
statements was false.)
Tonya: Do you have a day job?
L.B. James: Yes. I have a 'real' job that gets in the way of
my writing, very much in the way. I sit
at a computer all day categorizing and prioritizing problems for a large
company. Not glamorous, but I am very
good at organizing other people.
Tonya: Some of us have things we do to get into the writing
frame of mind like music, or drinks. Do you have anything special you do to get
into the writing mood?
L.B. James: I like to read Erotic Romances. I find other
authors’ other erotic books inspire me to want to write my own characters and
my own hot love scenes. Reading great
books fires up the imagination. When I’m
too tired to read, I pull out the old romance classic movies and have a romance
movie marathon…or I throw in 300 and absorb the Gerard Butler and associates
assorted eye candy.
Tonya: Great ideas to get geared up. Where do you keep story ideas? Where do they come
from?
L.B. James: Fantasies? Dreams? Imaginings?
Life experience? Pictures of sexy
men…Erotic Romance is fantasy on paper (or eReader) so it feels good to let the
characters in my stories come out to play and do all the naughty things I might
think about, but may or may not actually do myself.
Tonya: LOL I love it! If you’re self-published, can you tell us a bit about
that and how it’s going for you?
L.B. James: I am self-published and it is going well. The
ability to control how, when and where your stories are published is a great
feeling. Being an empowered writer, without being dictated by others, is
something we couldn't do even ten years ago.
Tonya: No it wasn't. I love the control we have as Indies. Are you a daytime writer, night time writer, and do
you have to be alone to write?
L.B. James: I write
alone. It's pretty hard writing an
intense sex scene when there are people around you, the phone ringing, the dog
barking, the DH wanting to know what’s for dinner. I have kids old enough to read over my
shoulder, so I write after they go to bed or while they're at school!
Tonya: That would make it hard to write whenever you want but it's workable. What advice would you give to new authors?
L.B. James: If you want to write, do it. There's nothing stopping
you anymore. Why not? You have nothing to lose.
Tonya: Do you write better when you first have an idea of
what your characters look like or do you write, then add character looks?
L.B. James: I have a vague idea what they look like first,
but I know a bit more about who they are on the inside. My favorite trick is to throw them into a
love scene and see what happens. You can
determine a lot about a person by the way they make love. I enjoy watching a new love scene play itself
out. I never have those plotted. Most
times the characters just take over.
Tonya: The characters certainly do let us know when they want a scene to go a specific way. What attracts you most about men?
L.B. James: Command. A strong presence combined with
thoughtfulness.
Tonya: We’re dying to hear about your latest book. What can
you tell us without spoiling the storyline?
L.B. James: Mine To Take is the sequel to All
Mine. These are books feature newlyweds who are still exploring their
relationship with all the intensity and passion of true love. Love and trust
are already established, so I reveal a glimpse into their lives as they explore
their boundaries with one another.
Tonya: Where can our readers find you and your books?
L.B. James: My books are on Amazon and All Romance Ebooks
Tonya: Now for a few fun questions. What is your favorite night time snack?
L.B. James: Any kind of cake or pie. Mmm. Lemon meringue.
Tonya: Do you like toppings on your ice cream?
L.B. James: Hot fudge or Butterscotch.
Tonya: What’s your favorite meal - Italian, Mexican, Thai,
etc?
L.B. James: Indian. I'd eat spicy curry every day if I
could.
Tonya: Why do you
write Erotic Romance instead of less sexy stories?
L.B. James: Because a
Happily-Ever-After is wonderful. But a
HEA plus hot, orgasmic sex with a totally gorgeous hunk? Well…do I even need to answer that? LOL. I
guess it’s the emotional + physical bonding that makes erotic romance the best
of all worlds, and much more like real life.
Making love is a natural extension of our feelings, and I don’t believe
it’s realistic or believable to separate them.
